SHEPHERD SHUTS DOWN SALEM FOR FIFTH STRAIGHT WIN

SALEM, W.Va. -- Senior defender/midfielder Erin Kinnear (Reisterstown, MD/Fallston HS) scored a goal and assisted on another to lead Shepherd University to a 2-0 win over Salem International in WVIAC women's soccer action at Salem on Saturday. The win was the fifth straight shutout victory for the Rams.

Kinnear opened the scoring on a feed from sophomore midfielder Brittany Sweeney (Rockville, MD/Magruder HS) at the 53:00 mark.

The Rams added an insurance goal at the 65:00 mark when sophomore midfielder Courtney McCauley (Charles Town, WV/Jefferson HS) scored on an assist from Kinnear.

Sophomore goalkeeper Amy Bell (New Market, MD/Linganore HS) recorded two saves in the shutout effort for the Rams. Jessica Jones had five saves in goal for the Lady Tigers.

Shepherd improves to 6-6-1, 3-2-0 in conference play, while Salem falls to 5-4-1, 3-1-0. The Rams return to action on Monday when they travel to Shenandoah for a 2:00 p.m. contest.

Notes: Shepherd's five shutout wins tie the school single season mark set in 2003 and 2004. The five-game winning streak is the longest in program history.
