SEVEN RAMS EARN WOMEN'S SOCCER ALL-WVIAC HONORS

PRINCETON, W.Va. -- Seven members of the Shepherd University women's soccer team were named to the All-WVIAC Women's Soccer Team for 2005. Sophomore defender Amanda Smith (Pittsburgh, PA/South Park HS) and sophomore midfielder Brittany Sweeney (Rockville, MD/Magruder HS) gained first team honors, sophomore goalkeeper Amy Bell (New Market, MD/Linganore HS), senior defender Ashley Gossert (Keedysville, MD/Hagerstown CC), and freshman forward Jennifer Corkran (Baltimore, MD/Sparrows Point HS) earned second team honors, while freshman defender Brandie DeWitt (Hagerstown, MD/South Hagerstown HS) and junior forward Lauren Cepko (Ellicott City, MD/Howard HS) were honorable mention selections.

Smith keyed a Shepherd defense that allowed only 1.87 goals a game. The Rams also recorded a record nine shutouts. Sweeney scored seven goals and added a team-high nine assists for 31 points to finish second on the team in scoring.

Bell registered a single season record nine shutouts this season. She had a 1.79 goals against average with 116 saves. Gossert was a mainstay on the Ram defense and added two goals for four points this year. Corkran led the Rams in scoring with a team-high 14 goals and three assists for 31 points.

DeWitt also solidified the Rams defense with her play. She also scored three goals for six points. Cepko was one of the team's top scoring threats as she scored five goals for 10 points.

Shepherd completed its season with an 11-10-1 mark with a 5-3 conference record under head coach Jim Sweeney. The Rams set new school marks for wins (11) and conference wins (5).
