SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Shepherd used a balanced attack en route to a 55-16 win over West Liberty in WVIAC football action on Saturday at Ram Stadium.

Jesse Correll (Port Republic, MD/Calvert HS) opened the scoring on a 40-yard reception from redshirt-freshman quarterback Dan Chlebowski (Greencastle, PA/Greencastle-Antrim HS) with 13:40 remaining in the first quarter.

West Liberty cut the lead to 7-3 on a 41-yard field goal by James Daley with 9:10 left in the first quarter.

Travis Lynch (Ridgeley, WV/Frankfort HS), who led all Ram rushers with 83 yards on 12 carries, scored on a nine-yard run with 40 seconds left in the first quarter.

Alex Herbert (Monrovia, MD/Urbana HS) added a nine-yard scoring run with 8:20 left in the second quarter to up the Shepherd lead to 21-3.

West Liberty running back Derrick Stickles scored on a three-yard plunge to cut the Ram lead to 21-9 with 1:11 left in the half.

Shepherd answered on the ensuing kickoff when sophomore Dustin Dudinski (Woodbridge, VA/Park View HS) broke several tackles and galloped for a 79-yard touchdown return to give the Rams a 28-9 lead with 1:11 left in the half.

Senior linebacker Chad McClintic (Williamsburg, WV/Greenbrier East HS) wrestled the ball from a West Liberty running back and rambled 41 yards for a score to give Shepherd a 35-9 advantage at the break..

Hilltopper quarterback Mike Clark teamed with wide receiver Marcel Ward on a 28 -yard scoring play to cut the lead to 35-16 with 11:25 left in the third quarter.

Freshman kicker Ricky Schmitt (Virginia Beach, VA/ Salem HS) booted a pair of third quarter field goals (35, 30 yards) to extend the Ram lead to 41-16.

The Rams completed the scoring with a pair of fourth quarter scores. Chlebowski and Correll teamed on a 64-yard scoring strike, while redshirt freshman defensive lineman Andre Henderson (Glen Dale, MD/Eleanor Roosevelt HS) picked of a West Liberty pass and rambled 97 yards for a score.

Senior strong safety Dan Winning (Culpeper, VA/Culpeper, VA) led the Ram defense with a game-high 10 tackles (seven solos). Redshirt-freshman Dante McKoy (Stafford, VA/North Stafford HS) added eight stops while sophomore linebacker Jeremy Bailey (Culpeper, VA/Culpeper HS) had seven.

Shepherd improves to 3-4, 3-1 while West Liberty falls to 0-7, 0-4. The Rams will travel to West Virginia Wesleyan next Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. conference matchup.
