RAMS UPSET WESLEYAN
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Senior guard Carrie Kunkel (Gettysburg, PA/Gettysburg HS) scored a career-high 19 points to lead Shepherd University to a 73-68 upset win over West Virginia Wesleyan in WVIAC women's basketball action at Shepherd on Monday night.
Kunkel drained 6-of-15 shots from the floor, including 5-of-9 from three-point range. Kunkel also added seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
Junior center LaToya Fisher (Germantown, MD/Seneca Valley HS) added 14 points, six rebounds, and four blocked shots. Freshman forward Laura Harkins (York, PA/Spring Grove HS) added 12 points, while senior guard Anna Lashway (Guilford, VT/Brattleboro Union HS) added nine points and team-highs of nine rebounds and five assists.
Frances Carvajal enjoyed a banner night as she scored 36 points and grabbed 21 rebounds to pace the Bobcats. Carvajal hit 14-of-20 shots and 8-of-9 free throws. She also added five assists. Sarah Grab was also in double figures with 11 points.
Shepherd improves to 10-12 overall, 9-6 in conference action, while West Virginia Wesleyan falls to 13-10, 8-6. The Rams return to action on Thursday when they host Glenville State for a 6:00 p.m. contest.
