SHEPHERD EDGES WESLEYAN IN DOUBLE OVERTIME

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. -- Cassie Murray (Allegany/Cumberland, MD) and Makia Staves (Bishop McNamara/Ft. Washington, MD) each scored 20 points to lead Shepherd College to an 82-80 double overtime win over West Virginia Wesleyan in WVIAC women's basketball action on Monday night. The victory was the ninth straight for the Rams, tying the record set during the 1998-99 season.

Murray added 14 rebounds, while Staves added 11. Brianne Hamilton (St. Maria Goretti/Martinsburg, WV) grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds to go along with 16 points. She also added four steals and three assists. Gaynell Reese (Bedford/Maple Heights, OH) also hit for double digits with 10 points.

Shepherd held a 63-50 rebounding edge and forced 21 turnovers to offset a dismal 33 percent (32-98) shooting performance in the close contest.

Katie Davis scored 17 points and Anneke Chewning had 16 to lead the Bobcats. Andrea Gianni added 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Jessie Roeth chipped in with 12 points.

Shepherd improves to 18-5, 13-2 in conference action, while West Virginia Wesleyan falls to 10-12, 10-4. The Rams return to action on Thursday when they travel to Glenville for a key conference matchup. Tipoff is 5:15 p.m.
