SHEPHERD DOWNS STATE IN OVERTIME

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Senior guard Anna Lashway (Guilford, VT/Brattleboro Union HS) scored a team-high 21 points to lead Shepherd University to an 84-76 overtime win over West Virginia State in WVIAC women's basketball action at Shepherd on Monday night. State's Carmella Suggs drained a three-pointer as time expired in regulation to force the extra session.

Lashway set a new Shepherd single game with a perfect 14-for-14 performance from the charity stripe. This eclipses the old mark of 12-for-12 set by Katie Laidley against Fairmont State in 1993.

Freshman forward Laura Harkins (York, PA/Spring Grove HS) and junior forward Casey Landrum (Yorktown, VA/ Tabb HS) added 14 points each. Harkins also added game-highs of 10 rebounds, four blocked shots, and three steals. Junior center LaToya Fisher (Germantown, MD/Seneca Valley HS) added 12 points and nine rebounds.

State's Tiffany McFarland tied Lashway for game-high scoring honors with 21 points. Tiffany Scott added 17, while Suggs poured in 16. April Stevenson was also in double figures with 11 points. McFarland also topped the team with 10 rebounds.

The Rams improves to 7-11 overall, 6-5 in conference action, while West Virginia State falls to 7-11, 3-8. The Rams return to action on Thursday when they travel to Ohio Valley for a 5:15 p.m. contest.
