SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. -- Ashley van Norden (Williamsport/Hagerstown, MD) scored a career-high 19 points to lead Shepherd College to a 69-56 win over West Liberty in WVIAC women's basketball action at the Butcher Athletic Center on Monday night.
Van Norden hit on 8-of-12 shots, including a 3-of-4 effort from three-point range. Ashana Cowans (Robinson/Fairfax, VA) added 11 points, while Lindsay Stewart (Hampshire/Romney, WV) and Brianne Hamilton (Goretti/Martinsburg, WV) added 10 points each. Hamilton, Cassie Murray (Allegany/ Cumberland, MD), and Danielle Murray (Martinsburg/ Martinsburg, WV) tied for team-high rebounding honors with six boards each.
West Liberty was led by Kelly West and Tara Johnson with 12 points each. West also dished out a game-high eight assists.
Shepherd improves to 5-7, 2-2 in WVIAC play, while West Liberty falls to 6-3, 1-1. The Rams return to action on Thursday when they travel to Salem International for a 5:15 p.m. contest.
