VIRGINIA UNION RALLIES PAST SHEPHERD

SALISBURY, NC --Pria Stellmacher scored a game-high 26 points to lead Virginia Union to a 92-82 win over Shepherd College in first round women's basketball action at the Catawba Classic on Friday night.

Stellmacher also grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds for the Panthers. Shaaron Atkins added 22 points and Danielle Hoggard tossed in 20 points to go along with 11 rebounds.

Cassie Murray (Cumberland, MD/Allegany HS) led the Rams with 17 points, 10 rebounds, four steals, and three assists. Lindsay Stewart (Romney, WV/Hampshire HS) added 16 points, seven boards, and a team-high six assists, while Casey Landrum (Yorktown, VA/ Tabb HS) contributed 13 points and four rebounds.

Shepherd falls to 1-4, while Virginia Union improves to 2-1. The Rams return to action on Saturday afternoon to face Virginia State at 2:00 p.m.
