SHEPHERD HANDLES VIRGINIA STATE, 87-68

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Senior forward Casey Landrum (Yorktown, VA/Tabb HS) scored 17 points and sophomore forward Laura Harkins (York, PA/Spring Grove HS) added 16 to lead Shepherd University to an 87-68 win over Virginia State University in women's basketball action at the Butcher Athletic Center on Monday night.

Landrum connected on 6-of-11 shots from the floor and was 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Harkins also added six rebounds and four blocked shots.

Junior center Danielle Costello (Middletown, MD/Middletown, MD/FCC) and sophomore guard Rebecca Frece (Springfield, VA/Annandale HS) each added 11 points for the Rams.

Janae Johnson led the Trojans with 15 points and tied Shepherd's LaToya Fisher (Germantown, MD/Seneca Valley HS) for game-high rebounding honors with nine boards. Erica Glasper was also in double figures with 10 points.

The Rams committed a season-low 12 turnovers, while forcing 21 for Virginia State.

Shepherd improves to 5-4, while Virginia State falls to 0-10. The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Wheeling Jesuit for a 6:00 p.m. contest.
