UPJ RALLIES PAST SHEPHERD
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Melissa Patterson scored a game-high 38 points to lead University of Pittsburgh Johnstown to an 86-73 win over Shepherd University in women's basketball action at Shepherd on Monday night.
Patterson scored 26 of her points in the second half as the Lady Cats erased a 44-34 halftime deficit. Patterson hit on 10-of-20 shots from the floor and was 15-of-16 from the free throw line. She also added a game-high six steals.
Samantha Conner poured in 17 points for UPJ, Jacklyn Schirf had 13, while Jessica Zapf added 12. Conner also added a team-best eight rebounds.
Junior center LaToya Fisher (Germantown, MD/Seneca Valley HS) led the Rams with 16 points. Junior forward Casey Landrum (Yorktown, VA/Tabb HS) added 14 points, while senior guard Carrie Kunkel (Gettysburg, PA/Gettysburg HS) tossed in 13. Freshman forward Laura Harkins (York, PA/Spring Grove HS) grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds to go along with six points. Senior Lindsay Stewart (Romney, WV/Hampshire HS) contributed seven points, four assists, and four steals. Senior guard Anna Lashway (Guilford, VT/Brattleboro Union HS) tied Stewart for game-high assist honors with four.
Shepherd falls to 10-14 overall, while Pitt-Johnstown improves to 20-6. The Rams return to action on Thursday when they travel to Alderson-Broaddus for a 5:15 p.m. contest.
