WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Maimuna Jibril scored 19 points and Tinisha Townsend added 16 to lead UDC to a 65-56 win over Shepherd College in women's basketball action on Thursday night at UDC.
The Lady Firebirds rallied from a 29-26 halftime deficit en route to the victory. UDC forced 27 Ram turnovers and only committing a dozen. Shepherd connected on 4-of-8 free throws, while UDC sealed the win with a 21-of-30 effort from the charity stripe.
Katrina Green added nine points and Rhonda Anderson had a team-high seven rebounds for UDC (9-14).
Cassie Murray (Allegany/Cumberland, MD) scored a game-high 22 points on an 8-of-13 shooting performance for Shepherd (9-13). She was 4-of-6 from beyond the arc and hit 2-of-2 free throws. Murray also grabbed eight rebounds. Lindsay Stewart (Hampshire/Romney, WV) added nine points, five assists, four rebounds, and a pair of steals. Danielle Murray (Martinsburg/Martinsburg, WV) and Carrie Kunkel (Gettysburg/Gettysburg, PA) chipped in with six points each.
Shepherd returns to action on Saturday when they host Davis & Elkins. Tipoff is at 2:00 p.m.
