SHEPHERD FALLS TO 7TH-RANKED CHARLESTON

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Courtney Thomas scored 25 points and Lisa Lee added 24 to lead 7th-ranked University of Charleston to a 95-59 win over Shepherd University in WVIAC women's basketball action at Eddie King Gym on Saturday.

Erica McElroy added 11 points and Emily Jones had 10 for Charleston (16-1, 8-0 WVIAC). Laura Kinsler and Jihan Williams each hauled down 10 rebounds to help the Golden Eagles to a 45-to-38 rebounding advantage in the contest.

Sophomore guard Molly Land (Hope, IN/Hauser HS) came off the bench for the Rams (8-8, 4-4) to score a team-high 13 points on a 5-for-7 shooting performance, highlighted by a 3-for-3 effort from beyond the arc.

Freshman guard Krissy Grosselin (Dayton, OH/ Ramstein (Germany) HS) and senior forward Casey Landrum (Yorktown, VA/Tabb HS) were also in double figures with 11 points apiece. Landrum also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Sophomore forward Laura Harkins (York, PA/Spring Grove HS) seven rebounds and a game-high five assists.

Charleston held a 50-30 advantage at halftime behind a 57.6 percent (19-33) shooting effort from the floor.

The Rams return to action on Thursday when they host Bluefield State for a 6:00 p.m. contest.
