SHEPHERD RUNS PAST TECH

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. -- Cassie Murray (Allegany/Cumberland, MD) and Brianne Hamilton (St. Maria Goretti/Martinsburg, WV) each scored 16 points to lead Shepherd College to a 70-58 win over WVU-Tech in first round action of the WVIAC Tournament at Shepherd.

The Rams pulled away in the second half after trailing 28-25 at halftime. Trailing 43-42 with 10:05 remaining, Shepherd used a 9-0 run to pull away. The run was fueled by four points from Hamilton and gave the Rams a 51-43 advantage with just under seven minutes to play.

Ashana Cowans (Robinson/ Fairfax, VA) added 10 points for Shepherd (13-15). Lindsay Stewart (Hampshire/Romney, WV) had nine points, while LaToya Fisher (Seneca Valley/Germantown, MD) grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds to go along with seven points.

Adebayo Akingba and Tamija Tucker led WVU-Tech (14-13) with 10 points each. Taria Jordan added eight points and a team-high eight rebounds.

Shepherd advances to face number one seed Glenville State on Wednesday at the Charleston Civic Center. Tipoff is slated for 6:30 p.m.
