SHEPHERD WOMEN DOWN STATE IN OVERTIME. 70-65
INSTITUTE, W.Va. - Senior forward Casey Landrum (Yorktown, VA/Tabb HS) scored six of her a game-high 17 points in overtime to lead Shepherd University to a 70-65 win over host West Virginia State in WVIAC women's basketball action on Monday night. The win was the third straight for the Rams and fifth in the last six games.
Shepherd rallied from a 27-17 halftime deficit and forced the extra session when sophomore guard Rebecca Frece (Springfield, VA/Annandale HS) drained a pair of free throws with 18 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 57-57.
Frece posted a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Rams (11-8, 7-4 WVIAC). Sophomore guard Molly Land (Hope, IN/Hauser HS) added 11 points, while senior center LaToya Fisher (Germantown, MD/Seneca Valley HS) chipped in with nine points and 11 boards. Frece also handed out a game-high five assists.
Teena Jackson scored 13 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to pace West Virginia State (12-7, 6-5). Lasha Anderson added 11 points, while Randi Cary had seven points and 11 boards.
The Rams return to action on Thursday when they host Ohio Valley for an 8:00 p.m. contest.
