SHEPHERD HOLDS OFF SALEM INTERNATIONAL
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Senior center LaToya Fisher (Germantown, MD/Seneca Valley HS) scored 14 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead Shepherd University to a 73-64 win over Salem International in WVIAC women's basketball action at the Butcher Athletic Center on Thursday night.
Sophomore forward Laura Harkins (York, PA/Spring Grove HS) added 12 points and six rebounds, while senior forward Casey Landrum (Yorktown, VA/Tabb HS) tossed in 11 points. Freshman guard Krissy Grosselin (Dayton, OH/Ramstein (Germany) HS) was also in double figures with 10 points.
Trailing 43-30 at halftime, Salem rallied to within two points at 63-61 on a jumper by Lakeisha Bowsman with 1:19 remaining in regulation.
Landrum, who scored nine of her 11 points in the second half, drained a three-pointer with 52 seconds left to give the Rams a five-point cushion. The Rams hit 7-of-8 free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
The Rams improve to 6-6, 2-2 in conference action, while Salem International falls to 4-9, 2-2. The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Fairmont State for a 2:00 p.m. contest.
