SHEPHERD UPSETS SHIPPENSBURG

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. -- Ashana Cowans (Robinson/Fairfax, VA) scored 13 points to lead Shepherd College to a 67-55 upset win over Shippensburg University in women's basketball action at the Butcher Athletic Center on Tuesday night. The win is the first for the Rams under new head coach Jodie Runner. The triumph was also the program's first ever win over the Lady Raiders.

Cowans also added five steals, four rebounds, and three assists.

Also scoring in double figures for the Rams were Brianne Hamilton (Goretti/Martinsburg, WV) (11 points), Cassie Murray (Allegany/ Cumberland, MD) (11), and Ashley van Norden (Williamsport/Hagerstown, MD) (10). LaToya Fisher (Seneca Valley/Germantown, MD) added seven points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.

Katie Bray led Shippensburg with 16 points. Kim Strickland posted a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 15 rebounds, while Jennifer Scaffidi added 12 points.

Shepherd improves to 1-2, while Shippensburg falls to 2-1. The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to face host West Chester in first round action of the Carol Eckman Classic at 3:00 p.m.
