SHIPPENSBURG DOWNS SHEPHERD IN SEASON OPENER

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. -- Shippensburg improved to 3-0 on the year with a 64-51 win over Shepherd in the season opener for the Rams in women's basketball action at Shippensburg on Monday night.

Four Lady Raiders hit for double figures led by Emily Swingler's 17 points. Christan Kelly added 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Jessie Gordon and Jennifer Scaffidi each added 11 points.

Shepherd was led by Cassie Murray's game-high 19 points. Murray (Alleghany/Cumberland, MD) connected on 8-of-13 shots from the floor. Brianne Hamilton (St. Maria Goretti/Martinsburg, WV) grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds to go along with five points. Freshman Carrie Kunkel (Gettysburg/Gettysburg, PA) made her collegiate debut with eight points on a 4-of-8 shooting performance.

Shippensburg shot nearly 50 percent from the floor, while holding Shepherd to a 35 percent field goal percentage.

Shepherd falls to 0-1 on the season.

The Rams return to action on Thursday when they host Columbia Union for a 6:00 p.m. contest in the home opener for the Rams. All fans will be admitted to the game free on Free Admission Night sponsored by the Shepherd College Alumni Association.
