SHEPHERD WOMEN FINISH AT 18-11, 12-6

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV -- The Shepherd women's basketball team finished 18-11 overall mark, with a 12-6 record in conference action under second-year head coach Jodie Runner. Below is a review of some of the top individual performers for the Rams this year.

The Rams were led by senior co-captain Cassie Murray. The 5-foot-10 guard led the Rams in scoring (15.1 ppg), rebounding (8.3 rpg), steals (2.3 spg), and blocked shots (1.0 bpg). She recorded eight double-doubles and had six outings of 20 points or more. Murray, a WVIAC Player of the Week selection in February, joined Damian Beane (1996-99) of the Ram football team as the only athletes in school history to gain All-WVIAC first team honors for all four years. She also joins former West Liberty great Joanna Bernabei as only the second women's basketball player in the WVIAC to accomplish this feat. Murray completes her career ranked second on the Shepherd all-time scoring list with 1,494 points. Her 768 career rebounds ranked her fifth, while her 248 assists place her eighth on the all-time assist chart. She holds SC career marks for steals (224) and blocked shots (104). Murray also holds SC three-point marks for career three-pointers (161) and single season treys (46 - 2002-03, 2003-04).

Junior co-captain Lindsay Stewart was second the team in scoring with an 8.7 average. The 5-foot-6 guard was third on the team in assists (2.9 apg) and steals (1.1 spg).

Senior Gaynell "Nippy" Reese moved into a starting role for the Rams this season. The 5-foot-8 guard-forward was third on the team in scoring (8.6 ppg) and fourth in rebounding (4.4 rpg), assists (2.9 apg), and steals (1.0 spg).

Sophomore forward-center Casey Landrum was fourth on the team in scoring with a 7.9 average. The 5-foot-11 forward-center led the team in field goal percentage (.500) and free throw percentage (.897).

Senior Ashley van Norden was fifth on the team in scoring with a 7.5 average. The 5-foot-5 guard led the team in assists with a 3.2 average. She was second on the team in three-pointers (36) and third in free throw percentage (.792). Van Norden dished out 329 career assists to place fourth on the SC all-time list.

Sophomore LaToya Fisher was second on the team in rebounding with a 7.2 average. The six-foot forward-center was second on the team in blocked shots (0.7 bpg) and sixth on the team in scoring (6.9 ppg).

Cassie Murray is in elite company as a four-time First Team All-WVIAC choice.
