SHEPHERD FALLS IN SEASON OPENER
INDIANA, Pa. -- Three starters scored in double figures to lead Indiana University of Pennsylvania to a 59-49 win over Shepherd University in the season opener for both teams in women's basketball action at Indiana.
Kara Taylor scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds to pace the Indians. Mame Brumbaugh added 14 points, while Molly Miller had 13.
Junior forward Casey Landrum (Yorktown, VA/Tabb HS) scored 18 points on an 8-of-16 shooting performance to lead the Rams. Freshman forward Laura Harkins (York, PA/Spring Grove HS) added nine points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds in her collegiate debut. Harkins also recorded a game-high four blocked shots.
Junior forward LaToya Fisher (Germantown, MD/Seneca Valley HS) and senior guard Anna Lashway (Guilford,VT/Brattleboro Union HS) each had seven rebounds as the Rams outrebounded IUP, 45-36.
Shepherd tied the game at 47-47 with 4:36 remaining on a jumper by Landrum, but the Indians proceeded on a 12-2 run to end the game and seal the win.
Shepherd falls to 0-1, while IUP improves to 1-0. The Rams return to action on Friday when they travel to the University of Findlay Tournament.
