GLENVILLE, W.Va. -- Tracy Wyatt scored a game-high 17 points to lift Glenville to a 58-49 win over Shepherd College in WVIAC women's basketball action at Glenville on Thursday night. The loss snaps Shepherd's nine-game winning streak and extends Glenville's home winning streak to 40 games.
Wyatt hit only 3-of-11 shots from the floor, but was 11-of-11 from the foul line. Amanda Mortelette added 12 points for the Pioneers and Tammy Spence had eight points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
Glenville jumped out to a 27-12 halftime advantage as Shepherd hit on only 4-of-21 (.190) first half shots. The Rams limited Glenville to a 6-of-22 (.273) shooting effort in the second half, but the 15-point deficit was too much to overcome.
Brianne Hamilton (St. Maria Goretti/Martinsburg, WV) led Shepherd with 13 points and seven rebounds. Cassie Murray (Allegany/Cumberland, MD) added 10 points, five rebounds, three steals, and two blocked shots. Makia Staves (Bishop McNamara/Ft. Washington, MD) and Ashley van Norden (Williamsport/Hagerstown, MD) each contributed eight points.
Shepherd falls to 18-6, 13-3 in conference action, while Glenville, ranked first in the East Region, improves to 20-3, 15-1. The Rams return to action next Thursday when they travel to Alderson-Broaddus for a 5:15 p.m. contest.
