SHEPHERD FALLS TO 16TH-RANKED FAIRMONT STATE

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Kristen Gattuso scored a game-high 20 points to lead 16th-ranked Fairmont State to a 79-59 win over Shepherd University in WVIAC women's basketball action at Fairmont on Saturday afternoon.

Ashley Reed added 19 points and Sidney Thomas had 16 points and game-high nine rebounds to pace the Lady Falcons. Erica Rome dished out a game-high nine assists.

Junior forward Casey Landrum (Yorktown, VA/Tabb HS) came off the bench to lead the Rams with 18 points. Landrum connected on 6-of-7 shots from the floor and drained all five free throw attempts.

Freshman guard Nylia Zamora (Miami, FL/Barbara Goldman HS) added 11 points, four rebounds, two assists and four steals, while junior center LaToya Fisher (Germantown, MD/Seneca Valley HS) had six points and a team-high six rebounds.

Fairmont ended the first half on a 10-2 run to take a 35-23 lead at the intermission. The Lady Falcons open the second half with a 13-5 run to extend their lead to 48-29 at the 14:32 mark and never looked back.

The Rams falls to 4-8 overall, 3-2 in conference action, while Fairmont State improves to 15-1, 5-0. The Rams return to action on Monday when they host Alderson-Broaddus for a 6:00 p.m. contest.
