RAMS KNOCK OFF FAIRMONT

FAIRMONT, W. Va. -- Danielle Murray (Martinsburg/ Martinsburg, WV) posted career-highs of 16 points and 12 rebounds to lead Shepherd to a 68-64 win over Fairmont State in WVIAC women's basketball action at Joe Retton Arena on Saturday. The win was the first for Shepherd at Fairmont since the 1998-99 season.

Shepherd came out of a recent shooting slump--shooting over 50 percent from the floor. The Rams also outrebounded Fairmont State, 41-28.

Lindsay Stewart (Hampshire/Romney, WV) also posted a career-high with 15 points for Shepherd, while Cassie Murray (Allegany/ Cumberland, MD) added 13 points, six steals, five rebounds, and four assists.

The Lady Falcons were led by Erin Fantroy with a game-high 26 points. Sidney Thomas was also in double figures with 16 points.

Shepherd took the lead for good at 55-53 with 7:05 remaining in the game on a pair of free throws by Danielle Murray. The Lady Falcons trailed by only two points at 66-64 after Fantroy hit 1-of-2 free throws with 16 seconds left in the game. Ashley van Norden (Williamsport/Hagerstown, MD) drained a pair of free throws in the final seconds to seal the victory for the Rams.

Shepherd improves to 6-8, 3-3 in conference action, while Fairmont State falls to 9-4, 1-4. The Rams complete a three-game road trip on Monday when they travel to Alderson-Broaddus for a 5:15 p.m. contest.
