FAIRMONT WOMEN DOWN SHEPHERD, 86-73
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Sidney Thomas scored 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead Fairmont State to an 86-73 win over Shepherd University in WVIAC women's basketball action at the Butcher Athletic Center on Saturday.
Ashley Reed added 21 points and Danielle Cornish had 20 for the Lady Falcons. Molly Kiger had nine points and six blocked shots, while Jenna Eckenberry contributed seven points and six assists.
Sophomore guard Tiffany Acker (Mount Solon, VA/Buffalo Gap HS) scored a team-high 20 points to lead Shepherd. Acker was 8-of-12 from the floor, including 4-of-5 from three-point range.
Senior center LaToya Fisher (Germantown, MD/Seneca Valley HS) scored 13 points and added six rebounds for the Rams. Sophomore forward Laura Harkins (York, PA/Spring Grove HS) added 10 points and six rebounds.
Fairmont connected on 91.3 percent (21-23) of its free throws in the second half en route to the win. The Lady Falcons also had a 32-26 rebounding advantage in the game.
Shepherd falls to 6-7, 2-3 in conference action, while Fairmont State improves to 12-2, 4-1. The Rams return to action on Monday when they travel to Alderson-Broaddus for a 5:15 p.m. contest.
