SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. -- Shepherd College earned its first win of the year with a 73-56 triumph over Columbia Union in the home opener in women's basketball action at the Butcher Athletic Center.
Five Rams hit for double figures led by a career-high 18 points from senior Jennifer Westervelt (John Carroll/Bel Air, MD). Brianne Hamilton (St. Maria Goretti/Martinsburg, WV) added 12 points and grabbed a career high 15 rebounds. Ashana Cowans (Robinson/Fairfax, VA) added 12 points, while Cassie Murray (Allegany/Cumberland, MD) and Ashley Van Norden (Williamsport/Hagerstown, MD) added 10 points apiece.
Leah James led Columbia Union with 13 points.
Shepherd improves to 1-1, while Columbia Union falls to 1-4.
The Rams return to action next Tuesday when they host Bowie State for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
