SHEPHERD WOMEN HEADED TO CHARLESTON WITH WIN OVER BLUEFIELD STATE

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Senior forward Casey Landrum (Yorktown, VA/Tabb HS) scored a game-high 18 points to lead Shepherd University to an 89-35 win over Bluefield State College in first round action of the WVIAC Women's Basketball Tournament on Monday night at Shepherd.

The Lady Blues were playing without the services of three of their top players who were suspended due to their part in an altercation in their last game against West Virginia State.

Sophomore guard Michelle Van Dyke (Williamsburg, VA/ Lafayette HS) came off the bench to pour in a career-high 11 points for the Rams. Sophomore guard Molly Land (Hope, IN/Hauser HS) was also in double figures with 10 points.

Senior center LaToya Fisher (Germantown, MD/Seneca Valley HS) added eight points and a game-high 12 rebounds, while sophomore guard Nylia Zamora (Miami, FL/Barbara Goldman HS) had six points, 11 boards, and a game-high seven assists.

Shamatee Mitchell led the Lady Blues with 13 points. Hyshea Branche added nine points, while Heather Farrell had seven points and a team-high six rebounds.

Shepherd improves to 16-12, while Bluefield State completes its season at 9-18. The Rams will travel to Charleston to face Wheeling Jesuit on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. for quarterfinal action at the Charleston Civic Center.
