SHEPHERD WOMEN SINK BLUEFIELD STATE, 79-61

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Sophomore forward Laura Harkins (York, PA/Spring Grove HS) scored a game-high 21 points to lead Shepherd University to a 79-61 win over Bluefield State College in women's basketball action at Shepherd on Thursday night.

Harkins connected on 7-of-12 shots from the floor and was 7-for-8 from the charity stripe. She also added six rebounds, three steals, two assists, and two blocked shots.

Sophomore guard Molly Land (Hope, IN/Hauser HS) and junior center Danielle Costello (Middletown, MD/Middletown HS/FCC) each added 12 points for the Rams (9-8, 5-4 WVIAC). Senior forward Casey Landrum (Yorktown, VA/Tabb HS) grabbed a game-high seven rebounds.

Heather Farrell scored 18 points to pace the Lady Blues (6-10, 2-7). Jennetta Smith added 12 points and six boards. Shamatee Mitchell tied Landrum for game-high rebounding honors with seven.

The Lady Blues took their only lead of the second half on a three-pointer by Farrell at 37-35 at the 14:33 mark. Minutes later the Rams took the lead for good at 39-37 on a jumper by sophomore guard Tiffany Acker (Mount Solon, VA/ Buffalo Gap HS).

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Concord for a 5:15 p.m. contest on Alumni Day.
