BALANCED ATTACK LIFTS SHEPHERD PAST BLUEFIELD STATE, 68-61

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. -- Senior guard Anna Lashway (Guilford, VT/Brattleboro Union HS) scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Shepherd University to a 68-61 win over Bluefield State College in WVIAC women's basketball action at Bluefield on Thursday night. Four Rams scored in double figures as Shepherd snapped a two-game losing skid.

Freshman forward Laura Harkins (York, PA/Spring Grove HS) added a fine all-around effort for the Rams with 13 points, four rebounds, four blocked shots, and four steals. Junior center LaToya Fisher (Germantown, MD/Seneca Valley HS) had 12 points and nine rebounds, while junior forward Casey Landrum (Yorktown, VA/Tabb HS) contributed 11 points and six rebounds. Senior guard Carrie Kunkel (Gettysburg, PA/Gettysburg HS) tossed in nine points and also grabbed nine boards.

Angel Kendall tied Lashway for game-high scoring honors to lead Bluefield State with 14 points. Heather Brown added 11 points, while Brandi Coleman tied Fisher and Kunkel for game-high rebounding honors with nine.

Shepherd improves to 6-10 overall, 5-4 in conference action, while Bluefield State drops to 2-16, 2-7. The Rams continue on their two-game road trip when they travel to Concord on Saturday for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
