RAMS HEADED TO CHARLESTON AFTER WIN OVER BATTLERS

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Junior forward Casey Landrum (Yorktown, VA/Tabb HS) scored a game-high 19 points to lead Shepherd University to a 69-53 win over Alderson-Broaddus in first round action of the WVIAC Women's Basketball Tournament at the Butcher Center on Monday night.

Landrum hit on 7-of-16 field goals and was 4-for-4 from the charity stripe.

A trio of Rams posted double-doubles on the night. Freshman forward Laura Harkins (York, PA/Spring Grove HS) had 14 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Senior guard Carrie Kunkel (Gettysburg, PA/ Gettysburg HS) added 14 points and 10 rebounds, while senior guard Anna Lashway (Guilford, VT/Brattleboro Union HS) had 10 points and 11 boards.

Landrum scored 13 points in the first half to help the Rams take a 34-23 lead into intermission. Shepherd opened the second half on a 15-4 run to extend its lead to 49-27 at the 12:37 mark. Kunkel had six points during the run.

Alderson-Broaddus went on a 14-0 run to get to within eight points at 49-41 with 7:41 remaining in the game. Shepherd ended the game on a 20-12 run for the convincing win.

Shepherd held a 46-36 rebounding advantage and forced 16 A-B turnovers.

Lisa Davis led the Battlers with 15 points. Laura Zaukaite added 14.

Shepherd improves to 12-15, while Alderson-Broaddus completes its season at 10-19. The Rams will face the winner of the Davis & Elkins-Glenville State game on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. at the Charleston Civic Center.
