SHEPHERD ROUTS A-B; RUNNER GAINS 50TH CAREER WIN
PHILIPPI, W.Va. -- Sophomore forward Laura Harkins (York, PA/Spring Grove HS) had 18 points, eight rebounds, and six assists to lead Shepherd University (7-7, 3-3 WVIAC) to an 82-59 win over Alderson-Broaddus College in WVIAC women's basketball action at Alderson-Broaddus on Monday night. The win was the 50th career victory for Ram head coach Jodie Runner.
Harkins hit on 7-of-10 shots and was 4-for-4 from the free throw line.
Sophomore guard Molly Land (Hope, IN/Hauser HS) added 12 points, junior center Danielle Costello (Middletown, MD/ Middletown HS/ FCC) had 11 points, while senior center LaToya Fisher (Germantown, MD/Seneca Valley HS) and senior forward Casey Landrum (Yorktown, VA/Tabb HS) were also in double figures with 10 points apiece. Fisher also added game-highs of nine rebounds and two blocked shots.
Kim Nakamura had 23 points to lead the Lady Battlers (0-11, 0-5). Sonya James added 16, while Tia Lafferty tossed in 13.
Shepherd shot 50.8 percent (32-63) from the floor and had a 41-to-23 rebounding advantage.
The Rams return to action on Thursday when they travel to WVU Tech for a 5:15 p.m. contest.
