CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Shepherd College won a pair of matches in first round action of the University of Charleston Tournament in volleyball action on Friday in Charleston. The Rams handed Barton College a 30-20, 30-21, 30-18 loss and followed with a 30-22, 30-23, 30-28 victory over Lees-McRae College.
Judy Whims (Thomas Johnson (FCC)/Frederick, MD) had 18 kills and seven digs and Amber Balmer (Ephrata, PA/Ephrata) added 12 kills and nine digs in Shepherd's win over Barton. Nicole Morgan (North Hagerstown/Maugansville, MD) added 42 assists.
Danielle Munson (Williamsport/Williamsport, MD) recorded 10 kills, while Kim Pirisino (John Carroll/Edgewood, MD) and Whims added 12 digs each to lead the Rams in the win over Lees-McRae. Morgan chipped in with 29 assists.
Shepherd improves its record to 7-3.
The Rams will return to action on Saturday for final round action of the tourney.
