MOUNT OLIVE, NC -- Shepherd College went 3-0 in first day action of the Mount Olive Volleyball Tournament on Friday. The Rams defeated Elizabeth City State (30-21, 30-13, 30-21), North Carolina Central (30-16, 30-20, 30-26), and host Mount Olive (30-24, 23-30, 31-29, 30-28).
Judy Whims (Thomas Johnson (FCC)/Frederick, MD) had 12 kills and Kim Pirisino (John Carroll/Edgewood, MD) added 10 kills and 12 digs in the win over Elizabeth City.
Pirisino recorded 11 kills, 10 digs, and four blocks to lead Shepherd past North Carolina Central. Whims added 10 kills and digs, while Danielle Munson (Williamsport/Williamsport, MD) had nine kills and eight digs.
Whims had 21 kills and 13 digs to pace the Rams in a hard-fought victory over Mount Olive. Shepherd rallied from a 29-25 deficit in the third game to earn a 31-29 triumph. Pirisino added 19 kills, 12 digs, and eight blocks and Munson contributed 13 kills, 12 digs, and six blocks. Nicole Morgan (North Hagerstown/Maugansville, MD) chipped in with 59 assists.
Shepherd improves to 14-5 on the season and will complete tournament action on Saturday.
