SHEPHERD VOLLEYBALL SIGNS PAIR SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Shepherd University head volleyball coach Sarah Smith announced today that Emily McCoy (Great Cacapon, WV/Berkeley Springs HS) and Ashlee Allen (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park HS) have signed letters-of-intent to play volleyball for the Rams next year. McCoy is a three-sport (volleyball, basketball, track) standout at Berkeley Springs High School. She holds school records for kills, blocks, digs, and aces. As a junior she gained First Team All-Area honors from The Journal and was a Second Team All-Area selection by the Herald-Mail. McCoy was also an All-State selection in both basketball and track. "Having watched Emily compete last spring, I am excited in her decision to attend Shepherd University," stated Smith. "As a three-sport athlete, Emily could have attended college anywhere and played any sport. Her athleticism is her strongest asset which is evident in her accomplishments. She has over come obstacles and never stops working. Her determination, team spirit, and drive will be something to watch at Shepherd." Allen was a two-time All-County selection at Severna Park High School. Allen helped lead Severna Park to a county championship in 2002 and earned a share of Team Player of the Year honors as a senior. Allen was also a Second Team All-Metro choice in 2004. "We are very excited in Ashlee's decision to attend Shepherd University next fall," added Smith. "She has proven to be a solid defender and passer who can handle the best of attacks. Her training and skill level can make an immediate impact on our team. Her experience at the high school and club level is invaluable. Ashlee has plenty of potential and we are looking forward to watching her grow at Shepherd." |
