SHEPHERD MOVES INTO SECOND PLACE WITH WIN OVER A-B SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Shepherd University moved into second place in the WVIAC with a 3-0 (34-32, 30-17, 30-21) win over Alderson-Broaddus in volleyball action on Tuesday night at the Butcher Athletic Center. The win snapped a five-match losing skid against the Battlers and was the first victory over A-B since the 2000 season. Senior middle hitter Holly Everhart (Purcellville, VA/Loudoun Valley HS) recorded 12 kills, six digs, and six blocks to lead the Rams. Sophomore outside hitter Susanna Hill (Clear Spring, MD/Grace Academy) and sophomore middle hitter Lauren Durbin (Fairplay, MD/Grace Academy) each added 11 kills. Hill also had 14 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Taylor Darnley (Yorktown, VA/Grafton HS) posted a team-high 20 digs, sophomore defensive specialist Lindsey Smith (Romney, WV/Hampshire HS) had 14 digs, while senior outside hitter Megan Bowman (Hagerstown, MD/ Williamsport HS) added seven kills and 18 digs. Senior setter Nicole Morgan (Maugansville, MD/North Hagerstown HS) contributed 44 assists, seven digs, and seven aces. Shepherd improves to 9-10 on the year, 6-1 in conference play, while the Battlers fall to 3-6, 3-2. The Rams return to action on Thursday when they travel to Fairmont State for a 7:00 p.m. contest. |
