RAMS WIN TWO AT WESLEYAN TOURNAMENT
SALEM, Va. -- Shepherd College evened its record at 2-2 with a pair of wins at the West Virginia Wesleyan Tournament in softball action on Saturday in Salem, Virginia. The Rams rallied past Glenville State for a 3-2 win and handed Mountain State University a 7-5 setback.
Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Shepherd took advantage of two walks and two hits to earn the win over the Lady Pioneers. Sara Rosboschil (Hayfield/ Lorton, VA), Carrie Cline (Central/Edinburg, VA), and Brooke Small (Herndon/ Herndon, VA) each had hits for the Rams. Small had two RBI, while Rosboschil added one. Megan Hall (Randolph-Henry/Keysville, VA) (1-0) scattered seven hits and struckout three to gain the win. Amanda Wayne was the tough luck loser for Glenville. Mara Kafton (Martinsburg/Martinsburg, WV) had three of Shepherd's 11 hits to pace the Rams to a 7-5 triumph against Mountain State University in the second contest. Rosboschil added a pair of hits. Emily Cantrell led Mountain State with three of the team's eight hits. Ram starter Karen Burnette (Tabb/Yorktown, VA) (1-1) went the distance to gain the win. She recorded six strikeouts and allowed only two walks. Courtney Avancini suffered the loss for the Lady Cougars. Shepherd improves to 2-2 on the year. The Rams return to action on Sunday for second day tournament action in Salem.
