SHEPHERD DROPS PAIR TO WESLEYAN

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV--West Virginia Wesleyan swept Shepherd in WVIAC softball action at Shepherd on Sunday afternoon. The Bobcats earned a 3-0 win in game one and took a 9-0 decision in the nightcap.

Wesleyan scored two runs in the fourth inning in game one on a sacrifice fly from Miranda Durst and an RBI single from Karen Bilotta.

The Bobcats added the game's final run in the sixth when Lacy Stallings led off with a single and scored on a double off the bat of Durst.

Stallings was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and Durst was 1-for-2 with a pair of RBIs.

Shannon Leighty (Carneys Point, NJ/Penns Grove HS) went 2-for-3 with a double to lead the Rams.

Cory Karcesky (7-3) scattered four hits and recorded seven strikeouts to pick up the win for Wesleyan. Karen Burnette (Yorktown, VA/ Tabb HS) (2-4) fanned three and allowed only one earned run for the Rams.

Durst went 2-for-4, scored twice, and drove in four runs to lead the Bobcats to a 9-0 win in the nightcap. Stallings was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored, while Ashley Blandford was 1-for-3 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored.

Jenn Canby (Martinsburg, WV/Martinsburg HS) broke up Danielle Salmons' no-hit bid with a single in the fourth inning. Pinch-hitter Andrea Changuris (Brownsville, MD/Boonsboro HS) singled in the seventh for Shepherd's other hit.

Salmons evened her record at 5-5 with the win, while Shepherd starter Megan Hall (Keysville, VA/Randolph-Henry HS) falls to 2-4 with the loss.

Shepherd drops to 7-12, 6-2 in conference play, while West Virginia Wesleyan improves to 20-10, 8-0. The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Columbia Union for a 4:00 p.m. doubleheader.
