FIVE RAMS EARN CONFERENCE HONORS

PRINCETON, WV -- Five members of the Shepherd University softball team have gained All-Conference honors as determined by a vote of league coaches. Sophomore pitcher/third baseman Mia Zappacosta (Owings Mills, MD/McDonogh HS) repeated as a first team selection, while senior outfielder Jenn Canby (Martinsburg, WV/Martinsburg HS) grabbed second team honors. Junior first baseman Brooke Small (Herndon, VA/Herndon HS), sophomore catcher Julie Scherpf (Berkeley Springs, WV/Berkeley Springs HS), and junior second baseman Megan Zahnow (Berkeley Springs, WV/Berkeley Springs HS) were honorable mention selections.

Zappacosta batted .345 with 22 RBIs and 19 runs scored. She added 13 doubles and a triple. As a pitcher, Zappacosta posted a 4-5 record with a 2.80 ERA. She fanned 33 and walked only six in 55 innings.

Canby, a three-time All-WVIAC selection, batted .350 with 13 RBIs and 27 runs scored. She also added three doubles, a triple, and a home run. Canby is also the team's leading base stealer with nine in 10 attempts.

Small batted .355 with 19 RBIs and 20 runs scored. She also added 12 doubles and a home run. Scherpf batted .310 with 26 RBIs and 11 runs scored. She also added six doubles. Zahnow batted .304 with 15 RBIs and 30 runs scored. She also added 10 doubles, three triples, and a home run.

Fourth-seeded Shepherd (22-14, 15-6 WVIAC) will face 13th-seeded Davis & Elkins at noon on Thursday on first day action of the WVIAC Tournament in Vienna.
