SHEPHERD DROPS PAIR TO WEST LIBERTY
WEST LIBERTY, W. Va. -- Shepherd College dropped a pair of games to West Liberty in WVIAC softball action on Saturday. The Hilltoppers took advantage of 10 Ram errors in game one for a 6-1 victory and gained the sweep with a 9-3 triumph in the nightcap.
Carrie Swinderman scattered five hits and recorded nine strikeouts to gain the win in game one. Christee Anderson (Martinsburg/ Kearneysville, WV) took the loss for Shepherd. Carrie Cline (Central/Edinburg, VA) doubled to score Mara Kafton (Martinsburg/Martinsburg, WV) in the fourth for Shepherd's only run. Stefani Nester and Tiffany Martin had two hits each to lead the Hilltoppers. Martin went 4-for-4 with a home run in the nightcap to pace a 13-hit attack for West Liberty. Nester also added a pair of hits. Martinsburg graduate Tabi Merceruio went the distance allowing six hits to gain the win. Ram starter Megan Hall (Randolph-Henry/Keysville, VA) suffered the loss. Shepherd scored all its runs in the first inning. Sara Rosboschil (Hayfield/Lorton, VA) and Kafton singled, and Cline blasted a three-run homer. Shepherd moves to 7-20, 5-17 in WVIAC play. The Rams return to action on Sunday when they continue on the road to face Wheeling Jesuit at noon.Game One
