SHEPHERD DOWNS WHEELING JESUIT AT WVIAC TOURNAMENT

VIENNA, W.Va. -- Freshman outfielder Rae Johnson (Stafford, VA/Colonial Forge HS) went 2-for-3 and scored a pair of runs to lead Shepherd University to a 3-0 win over Wheeling Jesuit in first day action of the WVIAC Tournament.

Johnson gave the Rams a 1-0 lead in the second inning when she tripled and later scored on a passed ball.

Shepherd added a pair of runs in the fourth when sophomore outfielder April Przygocki (Frederick, MD/Frederick HS) doubled and scored on a single by Johnson. Johnson later scored on a single by sophomore infielder Jodie Sites (Moorefield, WV/Moorefield HS/Potomac State)

The Ram got brilliant performance by senior pitcher Karen Burnette (Yorktown, VA/Tabb HS). Burnette (11-9) fanned 10 and allowed only two hits in the win.

Shawna Clark took the loss for the Cardinals.

Shepherd improves to 24-25, while Wheeling Jesuit drops to 17-32.
