SHEPHERD SWEPT BY WHEELING JESUIT
WHEELING, W. Va. -- Wheeling Jesuit University swept Shepherd College in WVIAC softball action on Sunday at Wheeling. The Cardinals earned a 3-0 win in game one and triumphed in the nightcap with an 8-2 victory.
Ashley Rawson scattered six hits to pick up the win for Wheeling in game one. Karen Burnette (Tabb/Yorktown, VA) took the loss for the Rams. Holly Dudash had three hits and an RBI to lead the Cardinals. Julie Mercer and Vicki McCoy added two hits each. Six different Rams singled, but Shepherd was unable to avoid the shutout by stranding nine runners on base. Shepherd held an early lead in game two with single runs in the first and third. Wheeling Jesuit plated a run in the fourth and erupted for seven runs in the fifth to gain the sweep. Margeaux Mallas went 3-for-4 and Mercer added a 2-for 3 effort to lead the Cardinals. Carrie Cline (Central/ Edinburg, VA) had three hits and drove in a run for the Rams. Brooke Small (Herndon/Herndon, VA) added two hits and an RBI, while Beth Vickers (Jefferson/Kearneysville, WV) also had a pair of hits and scored both Shepherd runs. McCoy went the distance to gain the win for Wheeling Jesuit. Shepherd starter Christee Anderson (Martinsburg/ Kearneysville, WV) suffered the loss. Shepherd moves to 7-22, 5-19 in WVIAC play. The Rams return to action on Thursday when they travel to the WVIAC Tournament in Vienna.Game One
