SHEPHERD SPLITS WITH TECH

MONTGOMERY, W. Va. -- Shepherd College split with WVU-Tech in WVIAC softball action at Tech on Sunday afternoon. The Rams rallied for a 3-2 win in nine innings in game one, while Tech posted a 2-0 win in the nightcap.

Jennifer Canby (Martinsburg (Wheeling Jesuit)/Martinsburg, WV) singled and Beth Vickers (Jefferson/Kearneysville, WV) followed with a two-run homer to give the Rams a 2-0 lead in game one.

Tech answered back with single runs in the fourth and fifth.

Jessica Burton (Stone Bridge/Ashburn, VA) walked and scored on a double off the bat of Brooke Small (Herndon/Herndon, VA) in the ninth to give the Rams their first conference win of the year.

Karen Burnette (Tabb/Yorktown, VA) worked the final two innings in relief of Christee Anderson to gain the win. Casey Newell took the loss for WVU-Tech.

Newell and Kelly Weikle each had two hits for Tech.

Christy Carroll tossed a three-hit shutout for the Golden Bears in the nightcap. Burnette, who also hurled a three-hitter, took the loss for Shepherd.

Tech got an RBI-double from Bobbi Kinnison and an RBI-single from Weikle to plate a pair of runs in the third inning.

Katy Fincham (Seneca Valley/Germantown, MD) led Shepherd with a pair of hits.

Shepherd moves to 3-12, 1-9 in WVIAC action. The Rams return home to host Alderson-Broaddus on Wednesday at Charlotte Prather Park in Martinsburg. Action is slated to begin at 3:00 p.m.
