WEST VIRGINIA STATE EDGES SHEPHERD IN EIGHT INNINGS

VIENNA, W.Va. -- West Virginia State edged Shepherd University, 1-0, in eight innings at the WVIAC Softball Tournament on Friday at Jackson Park. The loss eliminates Shepherd from the tournament.

Jessica Osborne singled home Kim Darby with the game winning run with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Osborne led the Yellow Jackets with a 3-for-4 outing.

Senior infielder Megan Zahnow (Berkeley Springs, WV/Berkeley Springs HS) went 2-for-3 to pace the Rams.

Sammi Kinder scattered five hits and struck out eight to gain the win for State. Senior pitcher Karen Burnette (Yorktown, VA/Tabb HS) (11-11) fanned two and allowed only six hits for the Rams.

Shepherd completes its season at 25-27.
