SHEPHERD SOFTBALL SPLITS SNOWBIRD TOURNAMENT ACTION

MYRTLE BEACH, SC -- Senior pitcher Karen Burnette (Yorktown, VA/Tabb HS) tossed a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts, to lead Shepherd University to a 9-0 win over Russell Sage at the Snowbird Softball Tournament in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on Monday. Shepherd dropped a 13-2 decision to Mansfield in an earlier contest.

Shepherd took advantage of nine walks and two hit batters en route to the win over Russell Sage. The victory snaps a six-game losing skid for the Rams. Sophomore outfielder Jamie Griffin (Martinsburg, WV/Martinsburg HS) tripled and sophomore infielder Jodie Sites (Moorefield, WV/Moorefield HS/Potomac State) doubled to lead the Rams.

Denise Breault took the loss for Russell Sage.

Jen Probst went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer to lead Mansfield past Shepherd in the first game.

Sophomore catcher Stephanie Sims (Mt. Airy, MD/Glenelg HS) led the Rams with two hits, including a solo homer in the fourth inning.

Kristen Dean earned the win for Mansfield, while junior Mia Zappacosta (Owings Mills, MD/McDonogh HS) (1-2) took the loss for the Rams.

Shepherd (2-7) will take on Alvernia and Hilbert in tournament action on Wednesday.
