RAMS SWEEP SHENANDOAH

WINCHESTER, Va. -- Shepherd College swept Shenandoah University in doubleheader softball action at Shenandoah. The Rams earned a 9-0 decision in the first game and added a 9-1 win in the second game.

Christee Anderson (Martinsburg/Kearneysville, WV) fired a one-hitter in her collegiate pitching debut for the Rams. She also recorded seven strikeouts. Amanda Long took the loss for the Hornets.

Shenandoah catcher Katey Wilson singled with two outs in the fourth inning to spoil Anderson's no-hit bid.

Leading the Ram offense in game one were Vickie McGilton (University/Morgantown, WV) and Jessica Sturgill (North Harford/Whiteford, MD). McGilton went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and a RBI, while Sturgill went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and a pair of RBIs.

Jill Hood (Middletown/Middletown, MD) tossed two-hitter in the second game to even her record at 1-1. Hood added five strikeouts. Long suffered the loss for Shenandoah.

McGilton went 3-for-3 in the nightcap to lead the Rams. Sturgill, Amanda Butts (Musselman/Gerrardstown, WV), and Beth Vickers (Jefferson/Kearneysville, WV) each had two hits. Vickers added a team-best two RBIs.

Shepherd improves to 2-1 overall, while Shenandoah falls to 0-2. The Rams will host WVU-Tech in doubleheader action on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. in the home opener.
