SHEPHERD SOFTBALL GOES 1-2 AT WV WESLEYAN TOURNAMENT

SALEM, Va. -- Shepherd University went 1-2 on the day in softball action at the West Virginia Wesleyan Tournament in Salem, Virginia on Saturday. The Rams dropped a 5-1 game to Bloomsburg and a 5-4 decision to University of Charleston before taking a 5-2 win over Mansfield University.

Bloomsburg got home runs from Tara Reed and Alyson Taylor en route to the win over Shepherd. Ashley Lynn tossed a two-hitter to pick up the win for the Huskies. Ram starter Stephanie Sims (Mt. Airy, MD/Glenelg HS) took the loss.

University of Charleston rallied from a 4-0 deficit with five runs in the seventh to gain a 5-4 triumph. The Golden Eagles took advantage of three Ram errors and a home run from Samantha Coates in the five-run rally. Andrea Lewis got the win, while junior Mia Zappacosta (Owings Mills, MD/McDonogh HS) took the loss.

Shepherd got back in the win column with a 5-2 victory over Mansfield in the final contest of the day.

A three-run homer by Stephanie Sims in the first inning powered the Rams to the win.

Senior pitcher Karen Burnette (Yorktown, VA/ Tabb HS) gained the win for the Rams, while Jen Probst took the loss.

Shepherd moves to 10-14 on the year. The Rams return to action on Sunday when they face Mercyhurst at 9:00 a.m. and Kutztown at 1:00 p.m. in final day tournament play.
