SHEPHERD DEFEATS PFEIFFER IN EXTRA INNINGS

SALISBURY, NC -- Shepherd College rallied to edge Pfieffer University, 2-1, in second day softball action of the Catawba Tournament on Saturday. The tournament was delayed due to rain.

Shepherd tied the game at 1-1 in the seventh when Jenn Canby (Martinsburg, WV/Martinsburg HS) walked, went to second on a sacrifice from Julie Scherpf (Berkeley Springs, WV/Berkeley Springs HS), and later scored on a double from Mia Zappacosta (Owings Mills, MD/McDonogh HS).

Brooke Small (Herndon, VA/Herndon HS) doubled home Erika Nagy (Damascus, MD/Damascus HS) in the eighth to give the Rams the win.

Small and Zappacosta each had a double and a single to pace the Rams.

Mindy Hartgrove, Jody McCurdy, and Sheena Bailey had two hits each to lead Pfeiffer.

Zappacosta struck out six and did not allow a walk en route to her first collegiate victory. Bailey took the loss for Pfeiffer.

Shepherd improves to 1-3. The Rams return to final day tournament action on Sunday.
