SHEPHERD SWEPT BY MCDANIEL

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV-McDaniel College swept Shepherd College in softball action here on Friday. The Green Terror won 6-1 in game one and took a 16-2 decision in the nightcap.

Lauren Cramer, Megan Mitchell, and Heather Sinclair each had two hits for McDaniel in game one.

Shepherd's only run came in the first inning when Mia Zappacosta (Owings Mills, MD/McDonogh HS) singled and scored on a double from Kelly Carpenter (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro HS).

McDaniel scored three runs in the second to take the lead for good with Kim Bloom's two-run highlighting the rally.

Samantha Abrams scattered six hits to gain the win, while Zappacosta took the loss for the Rams.

The Green Terror smacked 13 hits and took advantage of 10 Ram errors to gain an easy win in the nightcap.

Cramer was 3-for-4 with a solo home run and four RBIs to pace the Green Terror. Abrams and Sinclair added two hits each.

The Rams scored in the third when Zappacosta tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Carpenter. Zappacosta tripled home Jenn Canby (Martinsburg, WV/Martinsburg HS) in the fifth for Shepherd's final tally.

Zappacosta, Canby, and Jo Jo Small (Old Fields, WV Frankfort HS) had two hits each in the nightcap.

Kim Camponelli earned the win for McDaniel, while Karen Burnette (Yorktown, VA/Tabb HS) took the loss for the Rams.

Shepherd falls to 1-10, while McDaniel improves to 4-0. The Rams return to action next Wednesday when they host Davis & Elkins for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
