RAMS MOVE TO 4-5 WITH WINS OVER SKIDMORE, CENTRAL METHODIST

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Shepherd University downed Skidmore, 4-1, and Central Methodist, 5-4, in softball action on Tuesday at the Snowbird Tournament at Myrtle Beach.

Senior outfielder Jenn Canby (Martinsburg, WV/Martinsburg HS), sophomore catcher Julie Scherpf (Berkeley Springs, WV/Berkeley Springs HS), freshman outfielder Jamie Griffin (Martinsburg, WV/Martinsburg HS) each had two hits to lead the Rams against Skidmore. Scherpf also drove in three runs.

Sascha Diamond and Emily Turek had two hits apiece to lead Skidmore.

Ram starter Shannon Leighty (Carneys Point, NJ/Penns Grove HS) went 6 1/3 innings scattering four hits to earn her first win of the year. Junior Megan Hall (Keysville, VA/Randolph-Henry HS) came in to get the final two outs in the seventh. Katelyn Kennedy took the loss for Skidmore.

Scherpf, Griffin, and sophomore first baseman Brooke Small (Herndon, VA/Herndon HS) all went 2-for-3 for the Rams against Central Methodist. Scherpf drove in a pair of runs, while Griffin and Small each scored twice.

Danielle Dunn had a pair of hits and drove in a run to lead Central Methodist.

Sophomore pitcher Mia Zappacosta (Owings Mills, MD/McDonogh School) went the distance to gain the win, while Shannan Saunders tossed a complete game loss for the Eagles.

Shepherd improves to 4-5 on the season. The Rams return to tournament action on Wednesday.
