LIMESTONE DOWNS SHEPHERD

SALISBURY, NC -- Limestone College handed Shepherd College a 9-4 setback in first day softball action at the Catawba Tournament on Friday.

Limestone starter Keisha Powell helped her own cause with a grand slam in the bottom of the first inning to key a six-run rally after the Rams held a 1-0 lead in the top of the frame when Kelly Carpenter (Waynesboro, PA/ Waynesboro HS) drove in Jenn Canby (Martinsburg, WV/Martinsburg HS).

Lauren Miceli added a two-run homer in the second and a solo shot in the fifth for the Saints.

Powell went the distance to gain the victory, while Shannon Leighty (Carneys Point, NJ/Penns Grove HS) suffered the loss for the Rams.

Shepherd falls to 0-3, while Limestone improves to 5-10. The Rams return to second day tournament action on Saturday with games at 11 a.m., 5 p.m., and 7 p.m.
