FAIRMONT SWEEPS SHEPHERD
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. -- Fairmont State swept Shepherd College in WVIAC softball doubleheader action at Fairmont on Wednesday. The Falcons earned a 4-1 win in the first game and followed with a 3-0 triumph in the nightcap.
Fairmont starter Jessica Greathouse recorded 13 strikeouts and scattered four hits in game one to improve her record to 3-1. Ram starter Christee Anderson (Martinsburg/Kearneysville, WV) suffered the loss. Senior outfielder Mara Kafton (Martinsburg/Martinsburg, WV) led the Rams with a pair of doubles. Freshmen Brooke Small (Herndon/ Herndon, VA) and Megan Hall (Randolph-Henry/Keysville, VA) each added singles. Becky Brown led the Lady Falcons with two hits. Freshman pitcher Emily Wymer tossed a four-hitter to pace the Lady Falcons in game two. Freshman Karen Burnette (Tabb/Yorktown, VA) took the loss for the Rams. Shepherd falls to 0-2, 0-2 in conference play, while Fairmont improves to 5-6, 2-0. The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Ohio Valley for a noon conference doubleheader.
