RAMS SWEEP FROSTBURG

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. -- Shepherd College swept a doubleheader from Frostburg State University in softball action at Shepherd on Monday afternoon. The Rams took a 10-1 win in the first game, and gained the sweep with a 6-2 triumph in the nightcap.

Freshman pitcher Christee Anderson (Martinsburg/Kearneysville, WV) tossed a one-hitter to lead the Rams in game one.

Raelee Casazza's double in the fourth inning was the only hit for the Bobcats.

Shea Sirbaugh (Berkeley Springs/Berkeley Springs, WV) led the Rams with a 2-for-2 performance with two runs and an RBI. Anderson, Jessica Sturgill (North Harford/Whiteford, MD), and Amanda Fleming (Hancock/Hancock, MD) drove in two runs apiece. Fleming also smacked the first home run of the year for the Rams with a solo shot to left in the fourth.

Sturgill went 3-for-3 with four RBIs and three runs scored to lead the Rams in the nightcap. Sturgill belted a pair of two-run homers and added a double.

Shepherd starter Becky Porter (James Buchanan/Chamberburg, PA) won her third game in as many days to improve to 5-0 on the year. Porter recorded seven strikeouts in five innings. Jill Hood (Middletown/Middletown, MD) added four strikeouts in the final two innings to seal the win for the Rams.

Angel Giuffreda smacked a two-run single to lead the Bobcats in game two.

Shepherd improves to 9-6, while Frostburg State falls to 3-5. The Rams will travel to Shippensburg University on Wednesday for a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader.
